Comments: TRANSLATION IN AMERICA.

That is really interesting - I am fascinated by how one-sided the news is in the US. I just finished a really interesting fiction book called The Map of Love by Adhaf Soueif that gives a different perspective on Egypt and Western perceptions of the middle eastern culture.

Translation from Arabic into English looks on one level like a huge opportunity area to me. There's a millennium and a half of material [from an intensely literary and broad-based culture] to mine through, and a shortage of people to do it.

Therefore they get to pick low-hanging fruit, surely?

Whether there's a demand side is another issue, or course, but the supply side is rich, as also for Hindi and Chinese.
